OVERWORLD

  • The Overworld is the beginning point of the world, it is the lifeblood of Minecraft. The landscape of the Overworld is made up of ‘biomes’. A biome is an expanse of blocks that varies depending on where it is in the world. Biomes can range from 100 blocks across to 5000 blocks across. There are many different types of biomes, and some are very rare. Different biomes have different resources, structures, and unique landscapes. Ranging from majestic soaring mountains to deep mysterious oceans, biomes are each individually unique in their own way. For example: the marsh biome has the highest diamond spawn rate of all the biomes. You can only find goats in snowy biomes. The meadow is the only place that you can get the advancement, ‘The Sound Of Music’. However, you will never find a desert biome beside a mountainous one. This is because a mountainous biome is cold, and a desert biome is hot. Another example of this is that you will never find a lukewarm ocean beside an ice spikes biome. Below there is a list of every biome in Minecraft and all their characteristics.

  • The plains biome is a warm biome, so it can border any other biome. It consists of rolling hills and scatterings of oak trees. You can find a village in this biome, and the villagers are cloaked in a simple brown robe. You can find caves in this biome, and the ore span rates are average. This biome is not rare, and can be found commonly beside every other biome. The picture to the left is what a plains biome looks like.

  • The desert biome is a hot biome, and this means it can only border other warm or hot biomes. It is made up of sandy dunes. Endermen spawn the most in this biome, and it never rains here. It does have a village native to it, and the villagers where sandy brown robes with green and orange sashes. The ore spawn rates are average. This biome is not rare, but also not super common. The picture to the left shows what a desert biome looks like.

  • The windswept hills biome is a cold biome, so it can only be found beside other cold or cool biomes. It consists of high mountainous terrain, with scatterings of spruce and oak trees. This biome does not have villages in it, though sometimes you might find another type of village encroaching on this biomes edge. The ore spawn rates are average, and you can find silverfish underground in this biome. This biome is not super rare, but definitely not common. The picture to the left shows what a windswept hills biome looks like.

  • The swamp biome is a warm biome, so it can only be found by cool, hot, or other warm biomes. It consists of mostly flat terrain covered in a thin layer of water, and small islands with oak trees on them. The trees in this biome have vines on them, and you can find lily pads on top of the water. This biome does not have any village native to it, but if a villager baby is born in this biome, it will have purple robes and wear lily pads on its head. This biome is the only biome that can spawn a witch’s hut, which is a structure. The ore spawn rates are average, except for diamonds, which spawn more in this biome than in any other. This biome is not common. The picture to the left shows what a swamp looks like.

  • The ocean biome has many different types, lukewarm which is a warm biome, frozen ocean which is cold, just ocean which is cool, there are deep kinds of all the oceans I just listed. There is also a frozen ocean, it is pretty much an ocean that has a crust of ice over the top. It consists of large expanses of water, the color depending on which type of ocean you are in. Sometimes you will find islands in this biome, as well as ocean monuments, which are structures. This biome does not have any villages in it, and the ore spawn rates are low. The ocean bed is made up of gravel, dirt and sand. Sometimes in the lukewarm ocean you will find a coral reef. This biome is about as common as a swamp. The picture to the left shows what lukewarm, frozen, and normal oceans look like.

  • The dark forest biome is a cool biome, so it can be found beside any other biome. It consists of large trees that have a huge canopy, so you can run across the treetops. This biome is the only biome that you can find a woodland mansion in. This biome does not have a village native to it. The ore spawn rates are average. Be careful in this biome, because the large leaf spread will allow monsters to hide beneath them. This biome is rare. The picture to the left shows what a dark forest biome looks like.

  • The birch forest biome is a warm biome, so it can be found beside any other biome. It consists of smaller trees that are white and have black stripes on them. The leaves of these trees are a duller greenish-gray color. This biome does not have any village native to it. The ore spawn rates are average. This biome is not rare, but it is also definitely not common. The picture to the left shows what a birch forest biome looks like.

  • The spruce forest biome has to different kinds, snowy and normal. The snowy type is cold, and the normal type is cool. It is made up of large expanses of pine trees. You can find a village in this biome, and the villagers are dressed in rugged mountain clothing. The ore spawn rates are average. This biome is about as common as a windswept hills biome. The picture to the left shows what a spruce forest looks like.

  • The snowy fields biome is a cold biome. It consists of rolling plains that are filled with snow instead of grass. You can find spruce villages in this biome, and the villagers are a little bit more bundled up. The ore spawn rates are average. This biome is one of the only biomes that you can find strays in. This biome is rare. The picture to the left shows what a snowy fields biome looks like.

  • The lush caves biome is a warm biome. It is a different type of biome than usual, because it is only found underground. It consists of large caves that have clay pockets, drip-leaf, glow berry vines, azalea bushes and a few other things. The ore spawn rates are normal, and you can not find a village in this biome. This biome is pretty rare. The picture to the left shows what a lush cave biome looks like.
